It's Monday...Hi September!

Hey everyone! Happy September and Happy Labor Day! This has been another crazy hectic week here at the literary household. We went to the Franklin Institute on Monday with my sister and her boyfriend. David had a blast, especially in the train room and the outer space section. We had a busy week at work, David had a doctor's appointment on Thursday, and then he had a try out day at a local preschool. He starts on Tuesday! I am really excited for him and sad at the same time that our baby is so big...

We slowed down a bit this weekend, but I still only managed to finish one book this week. Oh well.

Read This Week:

  5. Nice! A Fitzgerald book. We are toying with the idea of doing a Classics theme next year. We shall see how that one goes. :)

    1. A Classics theme would be fun. I'm doing one author for a year, so this year I'm reading through Fitzgerald's cannon.

  6. Not sure if I'm ready for another F. Scott Fitrgerald book yet. Were the characters more likeable than the ones in the Great Gatsby? The Jeanne Baret story has a pretty cover. :)

    1. I have to say I'm not loving the characters in this one. Fitzgerald's characters are notoriously selfish, and maybe it's just wearing on me after reading so many of his works this year....

  7. First day of preschool is one of those I have never forgotten (I have first day of high school coming up tomorrow). Enjoy your precious time with that little one. It goes by so fast!

What do you think about F. Scott Fitzgerald, Tender is the Night? Of all the biographical material I've read, his writing is quite reflective of the ups and downs of his life.

    1. Wow! First day of high school - that is a big day.

I love Fitzgerald, although I had a really slow time with Tender Is the Night this time around. It was interesting for me to read it in sequence and see how the characters, and F Scott and Zelda, evolve.

    1. I am enjoying it so far. It's interesting to look at how much has changed and how much things have stayed the same when it comes to women in certain fields.

  16. Oh I have actually been wanting to read 'Tender is the Night' for a while, but haven't really gotten around to it. I'm excited to see what you think of it. I wasn't a bit fan of 'The Great Gatsby' even thought it is one of the most well-written books I've read. Fitzgeral is definitely an amazing author! No doubt!Maybe it was a bit too much desperation in the book... I'd like to see how 'Tender is the Night' is.

    1. I think Gatsby is one of those books you adore or despise, and there is no middle ground! Tender Is the Night has a much older feel to it, and I think there is an air of sadness throughout because the characters (and Fitzgerald himself) have been through so much.
